Welcome to the portal of Centre of Smart System and Innovative Design (CoSSID) of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). This portal offers information regarding the research groups, services and industrial linkages of CoSSID. We hope this site will serve as a platform to connect the entire University community and also serve as an effective media channel for the public to keep abreast of the latest research and innovation activities in CoSSID.
A bit historical background, CoSSID was established on 13th june 2019 to replace Centre of Excellence Advanced Manufacturing Center (CoE AMC, February 2016 - June 2019) as the platform for development and innovation research activities in Engineering Manufacturing Faculty (FKP) of UTeM. CoE AMC has officially been upgraded as a Responsibility Center at UTeM on 28th February 2019, where it is the first UTeM’s Responsibility Centre operating on a research platform.
CoSSID strengthen industrial collaboration to support UTeM's mission and vision as well as contribute to the university's niche of Advanced Manufacturing and Computing Technology (AMCT) field of study in line with the requirements of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0). The general function of CoSSID is in line with the direction of FKP research that focuses on conducting industrial driven research. CoSSID have a clear focus on the manufacturing (design, function and production processes) of a product. Each CoSSID product manufacturing is translated through existing and upcoming smart technologies. CoSSID's expertise includes materials engineering, manufacturing and design technology, automation and ergonomics. Existing expertise and equipment will focus on the complete solution of system and product-based industry issues. System solutions include software, process optimization and information/data management. Product solutions include prototype material selection, processing and development. The development of system and product applications involves the integration of design with various control functions and integration requirements of various components. The products in the new design are designed to have the added value and better scope of application with cost effectiveness.
